WildHare Antique & Art Market (formerly known as FleaMarket!)

Question of the day: Do you have a wild hare (hair) to do something fun next month? Answer of the day: Why Yes, yes I do as a matter of fact!!!

"Me too" And I thought that y'all would want to do something too. So, I have gone ahead and made a plan!!! It's a good one!!! Keep these dates in mind while we talk: October 21, 22, and 23... I have rented Don Aslett's Museum of Clean for the WildHare Antique & Art Market!!! Of course, I haven't rented the whole museum......but the event center at the Musuem! It is a great space in a great location. And, we are going to shake things up a bit in our new venue....

For starters, we are going to be open on Friday night, October 21st from 7:00 - 10:00 PM. Admission for early entry into the WildHare Market will be $5.00. (Of course, you will be able to buy! Did you think I would just bring you in to tease you?) Amy from The Fish Off The Old Block will be there having a Wine, French Lemonade, Cheese, and Chocolate tasting. (There will be a separate charge for this.) We'll have music, some give-aways, meet and greet with many of the antique dealers in town and lots from out-of-town. You will finally be able to meet some of the dealers in town who normally just sell on line......I've coaxed them out of their comfort zones and they will be selling at the Market!!! Yippeeeee.

Saturday the Market will be open 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Sunday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

General admission is $1.00 with kids 12/under in for free with an adult.
Food and beverages will be available all weekend for purchase...from Gourmet Cupcakes to Dutch oven burritos!! And there are two restaurants across the street.

I think that this is going to be a great show. I've heard of some of the items that dealers are bringing!!! Can't wait. In fact, I have picked up a few things already from the dealers just by going into their shops to visit about the Market!!!

Asletts are planning on doing some tours of the museum for those interested. I will post times as we get closer to opening night.....

My quilt project has taken on a life of its own.

Thank goodness....otherwise how could I keep up with it all?

I love these men.......they are good and they are generous.........and they are happy to be able to be a part of this quilt of stories. Stories of desperation........stories of hope........stories of loss.......stories of healing. We won't know all of their stories and I don't think that is important anyway. They know their stories.

But now they know that their stories will be around for a long, long time. Woven into a quilt of patches from the shirts off their backs. I love it....I wish that I could keep it. It will be made with some of my own tears and prayers too. There must be a rule that I can't win it?!! Conflict of interest? It wouldn't look good would it? How about my husband? Can he win it?

Would You Give The Shirt Off Your Back for the Cure?

FINALLY!!! I have had an inspiration! And.....I think that it is a good one. And so far about 65 men agree with me!!!

As you know....men are fixers.....problem solvers! The problem with this cancer thing is that our men can't fix it...and they feel helpless. I saw it in my own home when we were losing a beautiful and vibrant daughter to cancer. My husband was a wreck wanting to "fix it" and he couldn't find a way. He would have "given the shirt off his back!"

I am asking men to donate the "shirts off their backs" for my fund raiser for the Relay for Life this summer. I am making a quilt out of blocks cut from the shirts and then I will be selling raffle tickets through mid July and will be drawing the winner at Relay for Life at Century High School. This project has really taken on a life of its own and I am blown away by the men who have donated and the stories that they tell of cancer. In their own lives or the lives of someone that they love. Some have cried....some have laughed, but they are all pleased to play a small part in something that will be a profound statement of their love and desire to help find a cure for the dreadful disease.

Thankfully.....I am part of a lovely group of women who are quilters!! The Queen Bees is a group of like-minded women who get together once a month for dinner and sewing....We are also always there for one of our "girls" and emergency meetings are scheduled. So, guess what? An emergency meeting is being scheduled and I am enlisting their help. We will be cutting and sewing and talking and laughing and the quilt will be a piece that anyone would be proud to have in their home.

The list of donators is extensive and I can't begin to list them here for fear of leaving someone out, but trust me when I say that we have great men here in Pocatello and throughout Idaho who have quite literally, "given the shirts off their backs" for us. They will all be listed on the quilt and some of the letters that have been written about their stories will also be included. It is heart warming for me. It will be heart warming for you too......

If you are interested in donating a shirt I will be at the Red Lion in Pocatello for their Mother's Day Brunch on Sunday. Or you can call me....or write me and I will be happy to pick them up. The more the merrier......

Hopefully I will be at several locations throughout the early summer selling the tickets. Farmer's Market.....Art Walk on First Fridays of June and July.....L and K Carpeting....and anywhere else that I can land a spot. Let me know if you have any good ideas of where to sell.....

My mind is reeling and I am thinking that this quilt idea would be good for almost any fund raiser.....hmmmmmmm......maybe I will go global....anyone know Oprah or Ellen?

To Live A Creative Life, we must Lose Our Fear of Being Wrong!!!

In February I was lucky enough to be able to spend a few days in San Diego. (I wish that I was there now and out of this snow....I have been freezing for weeks now.) It was my granddaughter's first birthday so I had fun times with my kids and my kid's kids! There is really nothing to compare with how good it feels to be with grandkids......they are so smart...funny....and kind! It was even fun to see my ex-husband and his wife who by the way is a way better choice for him than I was!!!! Anyway...I digress........

I happen to think that I have great kids and they have great spouses. Each unique.....and there is so much I admire in each of them. Today I am going to focus on my son-in-law who is a sweet and gentle southern man/boy......He is also very talented. He makes me want to be more creative and more ambitious in being creative. I always come home from their house thinking that I can be an artist! Hence the title of my blog, "To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong!" Their home is filled with original artwork that he has created. I love every piece and really, I am shameless about telling him that I want everything when he tires of it!!! I was the lucky recipient of a piece of his artwork for Christmas and I love it everyday.....I don't have it hung in the perfect place yet, but I have it hung where I can see it every time I walk into the kitchen....which must be a zillion times a day. (Actually, just knowing where to hang one's art work is a talent in itself.) So while I was there.....he was painting a painting.......the next night he disappeared and was in the garage framing it. They went from having a blank wall one night to having an original painting framed and hanging on the wall the next night. I couldn't believe it. I would seriously still be planning the whole thing.....Of course, besides talent....which he is brimming over with....he has youth on his side!! I might be able to claim a bit of talent, but I will never again be able to claim youth! Well.....with all of that being said: I ordered a stencil this morning and I am going to paint the ceiling in my treehouse/office/studio. That's enough talent for this girl for one day!!! Sure love Jason though and what he can do.......just wait until he sees my ceiling though.

Looking forward to my WildHare Antique Sale and FleaMarket coming up March 19th and 20th. I have lots of new dealers and I am excited to see what they bring!! I usually come home with a truck load of treasures......this spring will undoubtedly be the same for me......Can't wait to see you all there!!!

Finally.....a minute to call my own. They are few and far between these days which is just the way I like it. I'd rather be mad busy than sitting around and wondering what to do. None of those days for me! During these weeks since the holidays, I have been back at the Jackson House getting it ready for another estate sale! If you didn't make it out to 5111 Whitaker Road last fall, you really must find the time to come to this one. We will be holding the sale February 11, 12, & 13 from 9 - 5 each day. Special sales each day. You never know what we might put on sale and when......but they will be scheduled all weekend long and you won't want to miss them. At some point during the weekend everything will be specially priced. There are items that you will not have seen before, items that we found lurking in closets and behind books and even under the bed......Really, this is an unbelievable opportunity to add to your existing collections or start a new one. If you have been dreaming about something that you wished you would have purchased.....or if you have heard about this sale, but were unable to attend.......this is your chance to make some wonderful purchases. It will be fun to see you again......make sure you find me and say hello. It is my favorite part of the sale, when I get to see old friends.......

In between now and then I am also having our little Ryley and Ben for a couple of days....and then I am squeezing in a quick trip to San Diego to celebrate the first birthday of our littlest grand daughter, Lilian Georgia Broughton.......Can't wait to see her and as a bonus, I get to spend some time with our other "smalls" Ryan, Tucker, and Ila........Oh.......and their parents too!! It will be a grand time and I can hardly wait. Taking a suitcase full of stuff for the party.......Nanas don't travel light......

Also in the works is the Spring WildHare FleaMarket and Antique Sale. Held at Bannock County Fairgrounds March 19th and 20th......but more to come about that at a later date!!!

A WildHare Estate Sale

Wow....as you can see....I am not very good at adding pictures to my blog!!! I had very high hopes of how this would look......and it didn't look like this!

Never the less.........There is no way that these pictures paint a thousand words. You really MUST come to the Mary Jackson Living Estate Sale to believe your eyes anyway.

A partial list of the collections include, but are certainly not limited to: Fenton (this is a HUGE collection!) Weller, Books, Hull, Hall teapots....a wonderful Limoge teapot and sugar/creamer that is OH So wonderful, Van Briggle, Antique Furniture, Antique Clothing and furs and bags and so much more, Antique and Vintage Linens and Baby clothes, Scrimshaw on Sperm Whale Teeth, Ivory Bilikins, Native American Art and Artifacts, Antique Dolls, Antique toy irons, Sewing machines, buttons, and vintage trim, flower pots, A wonderful old flower cart, and more, more, more. Really...........there is no way to tell you what you have in store when you walk through the front door of 5111 Whitaker Road in Chubbuck. AND......that is just the upstairs! On the lower level you can find Antique Tools (including Railroad), Cowboy gear, and how about a couple hundred branding irons?! More Native American Including some antique saddles that will make your eyes water! More books.........Furniture....lamps.........wow, I could go on and on. Again, you will have to see it to believe it..........THEN! You can make your way to the barn for more antique tools, tractor seats, scales, old school desks........hmmmmmmmmmm.......And then, last, but certainly not least......Mel Jackson had an incredible mind and every week he took his pile of treasures to the blacksmith shop and together he and the blacksmith created the most wonderful metal sculptures out of items that you really won't believe. You will have your choice of these sculptures that will amaze and amuse you.....(I want a whole garden of them!) When Sarah and I carried them out of the woods to put on display I really could picture them in every corner of my yard!!!

I love this home and everything in it......so hard to not want everything that I see! I am thrilled to be able to host this estate sale for the Jacksons and I hope that you can come and see for yourselves. It is the perfect time to buy those Christmas gifts for the hard-to-buy for. There is something for everyone.....as my daughter, Kelly so aptly put.......for the collector and the novice alike.....

I apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause you parents out there, but I really have to ask that you not bring children under 12.....and no strollers.

The party's over....it's time to call it a day..Well...almost! I still have another building to clean out at the fairgrounds and I am NOT looking forward to that.......Thanks to all of you who turned out for the WildHare FleaMarket.....great fun and some great deals. In fact, I was surprised when I cleaned out my car yesterday morning......I found more deals than I thought!!

On to my next HUGE venture......A WildHare Estate sale that will blow your socks off...I hope to have pictures posted by next week and give you more details about the sale. You won't want to miss this one.......And sorry to bring this up, but due to the nature of this sale....there are many, many priceless antiques....I will have to ask you to leave your children under 12 at home. It would make you crazy to have them there anyway!! Really.......you would be a nervous wreck!!! I will post again soon about the sale........
